U.S. Small Business Administration to Host Regulatory Fairness Hearings in Toledo and Medina, Ohio

Federal regulators and SBA officials will meet directly with small business owners to address regulatory compliance enforcement and economic burdens.

The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) Office of the National Ombudsman, in partnership with the SBA Office of Advocacy, will hold two Regulatory Fairness Hearings in Ohio on September 23 and September 24, 2026. These hearings offer small business owners a direct forum to report issues regarding federal regulatory enforcement, compliance burdens, and excessive oversight. 

Office of the National Ombudsman wants to hear directly from small business owners — farmers, ranchers, and manufacturers — about what they've been dealing with from federal regulators, in their own words. The hearings are joint events with the Office of Advocacy, which carries the regulatory analysis and the Regulatory Flexibility Act record; this office carries the hearing, case intake, and agency follow-up. They're also relaunching the Red Tape Hotline, with calling cards handed out at each hearing.

Toledo Regulatory Fairness Hearing

• Date & Time: Wednesday, September 23, 2026 | 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. 

• Location: The Toledo Club (Belvedere Room, 4th Floor), 235 14th Street, Toledo, OH 43604 

• Target Industry Scope: Clean Water Act and nutrient-runoff enforcement in the Lake Erie watershed, USDA conservation-program compliance, and workplace-safety/air-permitting enforcement at regional shipyards and marine repair facilities.

Medina Regulatory Fairness Hearing

• Date & Time: Thursday, September 24, 2026 | 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. 

• Location: Medina Recreation Center, 855 Weymouth Road, Medina, OH 44256 

• Target Industry Scope: Workplace-safety inspections and citations at small manufacturing plants, air-permitting and emissions rules for industrial sources, federal procurement and supply-chain requirements affecting stamping and machining suppliers, and employer recordkeeping burdens.
