What Is a Solar Eclipse?
A solar eclipse is when the moon passes between the sun and earth. There are different types of eclipses; the April 8 event will be a Total Solar Eclipse, which occurs when the moon appears at least as large as the sun, totally obscuring its light. This means it will become dark around 3 p.m.

• The last Total Solar Eclipse in Ohio happened in 1806
• The next Total Solar Eclipse in Ohio will happen in 2099
• This will be the last Total Solar Eclipse in North America until 2045
• There have been only 15 Total Solar Eclipses visible in the US since 1867

The City of Dublin’s top priority is safety. Specific eyewear is a must for viewing. Using improper glasses or filters could result in severe eye injury.

Do not use any of the following without a special solar filter:

• Binoculars
• Camera Lens
• Telescope
• Ordinary sunglasses

Traffic
Ohio is within a one-day drive to 70% of the US population. Dublin is anticipated to see high traffic impacts before and after the Eclipse.

Residents are highly encouraged to watch the event from the safety of their own homes and refrain from driving to other locations.

If you wish to watch the Eclipse in a nearby park, using more eco-friendly forms of transportation such as walking, biking, or scootering is recommended.
